This drawing was created while searching for a face that carries both
deep expression and the innocence of childhood.
That balance was found in this young boy, during a public prayer gathering
held on the streets of Jerusalem, among a large crowd.
The artist chose to draw the portrait on watercolor paper (Arches paper),
allowing the pencil to interact with the textured surface.
The natural resistance and grain of the paper create movement and vitality,
as the graphite lightly skips across the surface rather than settling into rigid precision.
Because the portrait was drawn from memory, preserved in the artist’s mind,
this textured surface allowed greater freedom and intuition.
The slight unpredictability of the paper released the hand,
making it possible to reach the essence of the figure quickly and truthfully.
The child is depicted at a moment of quiet awe,
listening to the collective recitation of David Hamelech's Tehilim.
His gaze is lifted upward, capturing a fleeting moment of spiritual connection —
a sincere, unguarded encounter between a young soul and the words of prayer.
