This painting reflects Jerusalem in a time before its return to life —
a period when few were drawn to settle there,
and only those who truly understood its deeper value chose to come.
In those days, Jerusalem was still part of the desert landscape:
rocky, mountainous, difficult to cultivate,
its greatness hidden from the untrained and unaware eye.
It required vision to recognize the potential concealed within it.
Those who arrived first saw what others could not.
They began to live, to build, and to restore —
and through their presence, the city revealed its true worth.
Only then did others begin to turn their attention toward it.
The work seeks to convey the experience of one who arrives in Jerusalem
during that time of desolation
and yet perceives it as a precious stone among ordinary rocks —
a pearl within the desert.
Golden, radiant, quietly luminous,
Jerusalem appears here as a place that awakens desire and strength:
the will to build a life,
even in the face of hardship,
drawn by a value that cannot be ignored once seen.
